About Open Knowledge Foundation Nepal

"A world where knowledge creates power for the many, not the few" — this is the world we choose.

Open Knowledge Foundation Nepal (OKF Nepal) is a non-profit civic tech organization working to create a fair, sustainable, and open future by advancing open knowledge as a design principle beyond data. We believe that open data is powerful in enabling participatory governance with civil society, ultimately leading to sustainable development. The organization is engaged in research, advocacy, training, workshops, and the development of tools related to open knowledge. We are the active chapter of the Open Knowledge Foundation Network.

We are committed to ensuring that everyone in Nepal has free and open access to key information, empowering them to make informed decisions about their own lives based on information that was previously inaccessible.

Why it matters

Open knowledge delivers far-reaching societal benefits. We seek a world in which open knowledge is ubiquitous and routine – both online and offline. We promote open knowledge for its potential to deliver far-reaching societal benefits, including:

  • Better Governance: Openness improves governance through increased transparency and engagement.
  • Better Culture: Openness enables greater access, sharing, and participation in cultural material and activities.
  • Better Research: For research to function effectively and for society to reap the full benefits of research activities, research outputs should be open.
  • Better Economy: Openness enables easier and faster reuse of material. Open data and content are the key raw ingredients for developing new, innovative tools and services.
